About the Beacon Projects

Q: What are the Beacons for Innovation?
A: This is the collective title for 14 projects being carried out over the next two years to tackle the big challenges for the creative industries. Each one will identify the key innovation and business needs that will enable organisations to turn these ideas into successes for the UK.

Q: Who came up with these 14 Beacon projects?
A: The Creative Industries KTN after extensive discussions with industry leaders.

Q: Who is running all of this?
A: The Beacons for Innovation are run by the Creative Industries Knowledge Transfer Network which is part of the family of KTNs funded by the Technology Strategy Board.

Q: What is your relationship to the TSB and their Technology Strategy for the Creative Industries?
A: CI KTN and the the TSB are part of the same virtual team. The work that we are carrying out dovetails with and supports the priorities set-out in the CI Technology Strategy document. We share there views on the key issues and opportunities that the creative industries face.

Q: What is the order in which the projects will happen?
A: We are maintaining a degree of flexibility to ensure that projects can be topical or respond to events.

Q: How will each Beacon Project be run?
A: There will be a mix of live events held around the UK and online activities. We have created a bespoke social networking website, which will be the hub for debate, networking, knowledge sharing and discussion. We will be working closely with other organisations who share our passion for innovation. All of our activities and research will be made available through the social networking platform.

Q: What opportunities are there to influence these projects?
A:  People can become engaged through the social networking site, by taking part in the discussions and surveys we will be running, starting their own threads and by attending events.

Q: How long will each Beacon Project last and what happens at the end?
A: Each one will be a very intensive project which we will conclude within six to eight months. There will be ongoing updates during the project and at the conclusion we will produce a final report. We will also continue to support the online communities after the project has ended.

Q: What does it cost to join?
A: A little of your precious time, nothing more.

Q: Can I invite others to join?
A: We want as many people as possible to contribute to the project. Please encourage them to become members of the KTN at creativeindustriesktn.org and get involved in these Beacon Projects.
