One of the priorities identified in the Technology Strategy Board's Creative Industries Technology Strategy report is developing skills, knowledge exchange and the cross-fertilisation of know-how between sectors. This Beacon Project will create a vision for how creative industries businesses can easily and successfully leverage the resources and ability of the knowledge base. Knowledge Transfer traditionally has its roots in the science and engineering sectors where new technologies have often been developed in universities and transferred to industry for commercialisation. In driving innovation for the creative industries we need to increase our understanding of the needs and potential for better Knowledge Transfer and exchange across the sector, promote greater awareness of the benefits and support available, and if necessary, define new and more relevant interventions.” Susan Amor, Head of Knowledge Transfer, AHRC

The findings and provocations are not the end of our journey on this critically important theme but rather the beginning of further discussion, debate and follow up actions and we look forward to working with you to take this work forward.

Scenarios - Unlocking Knowledge Transfer

The scenarios chapter of the Unlocking Knowledge Transfer has now been completed and marks the penultimate stage of this exciting Beacon project.
Following desk research, expert interviews, our online survey and related workshops four scenarios have been used to explore the complex but interrelated themes surrounding the Creative Industries engagement with knowledge sharing and formal mechanisms of transfer:

       1. ‘Stasis’
       2. ‘Austerity Britain’
       3. ‘Stars Align’
       4. ‘Talent-Centric Future’

Specifically the scenarios are being used as a tool to facilitate our exploration of what opportunities exists to increase CI engagement both now and in the future. This to support the development of evidence based recommendations and related actions that  we and other stakeholders can implement now to increase the Creative Industries engagement with Universities and other centres of research and practice excellence to drive innovation forward as an integral part of the knowledge economy. Please provide feedback on the reports as we look forward to keeping this community of interest central to our work going forward.

How can creative industries unlock the opportunities offered by Knowledge Transfer? Other sectors have enviable track records in driving value from KT activities. As technology innovation continues to accelerate creative businesses must look to achieve the same results.
The Creative Industries KTN has published a report on the first phase of the Unlocking Knowledge Transfer Beacon Project. This initial stage includes specially commissioned work covering expert interviews, extensive online survey and a series of UK wide workshops.
The project will continue into early 2010 developing a vision of what KT products and services could look like in the next decade to meet the needs of creative businesses and help act as a catalyst to these businesses to fully exploit knowledge sharing.
Join in the discussion and debate on the Unlocking Knowledge Transfer pages.
